Day 2- Beginning in Beijing

I totally typed this up and lost it, so it may end up briefer than I would have liked.

We met our tour group at the airport and shuttled to our hotel. It's beautiful!
After a most needed shower, we headed out for an afternoon on the town, just the two of us? First goal? Find the subway. Yea...we failed. Well, we found it, but first we passed the two closest stops being blocked by what we thought was a private area (nope, airport-like security stations are EVERYWHERE) and being unable to cross a freeway as pedestrians. After a 2mi detour, we successfully found the subway!!!
We got off at Guloudajie to see the Drum and Bell Towers. Absolutely amazing. Huge steep staircases to get all out lunges in for the day. A drum performance. Lots of cool ancient clocks.

Next we wandered the nearby Hudson's and watched families playing on the plazas. We dared some street food (lamb kebabs and spiraled, spiced fried potato) while we studied the mid lakes.

Took the subway back to the hotel which is located near the 2008 Olympic Complex. The night scene was pretty awesome!
Eventually, too little sleep and 8mi of walking caught up to us.

We succumbed to jet lag around 8pm. On to Day 3!!!
